Newcastle United have won four consecutive Championship games, and now sit second in the table.
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has explained what he feels is the reason behind his side’s improvement in results, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Magpies have reeled off four consecutive league victories after opening their Championship campaign with back-to-back losses, and Benitez highlighted the key reason for their reversal in fortunes, as quoted by nufc.co.uk:
Rafa Benitez is pleased with his side’s improved defensive solidarity
“I think the key is because they all work together, they are defending better. I am really pleased because until the last minute the players were pushing and pushing, that is the key.”
The Championship is one of the the most physically intense leagues in the world, and one that demands total focus for the entire of the game – something that Benitez’s men were guilty of not showing earlier in the season, especially during their 2-1 home loss to Huddersfield Town.

After 12 new faces arrived at the club throughout the summer, it is perfectly understandable that Benitez’s new-look Newcastle side would take a while to gel together as a unit, and what is most impressive about their recent run of results is how they have been grinding out wins without playing to their highest level.
Next up for the Magpies is a tricky looking trip to Loftus Road tomorrow night to take on seventh-placed Queens Park Rangers.
