The Magpies are set for a transfer breakthrough, their manager says.
Newcastle United are close to adding to their squad, manager Rafa Benitez has told BBC Radio Newcastle, as quoted by the Shields Gazette.
The Magpies are yet to make any new additions since their demotion to the Championship, but Benitez has insisted that is set to change soon.
The Spaniard admitted that Euro 2016 has hindered his plan somewhat, with directors of other clubs not around to conclude deals.
“It’s surprising. You try to work when the transfer window is open and some technical directors are away,” Benitez told BBC Radio Newcastle, as quoted by the Shields Gazette. “You cannot find them and do deals.”
And according to the 55-year-old, only unsigned documents stand in the Magpies’ way of adding to their squad.
“We are working very hard. It’s not easy, because the market is so high,” he added. “But we are fine. We have three or four things ready.
“When I say ready, it’s really, really nearly there, but we are waiting for someone who is working at another club and he needs to come back and sign the documents.”
Newcastle, who travel to Fulham for their first game back in the second tier, have been linked with a host of names during the close-season.
Reading midfielder Danny Williams is the latest of those (Daily Mail), though Sunderland, Swansea City and Aston Villa are also said to be keen.
