Benik Afobe shares what Nuno has been telling the Wolves players about Jorge Mendes allegations

Wolverhampton Wanderers are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table.

Wolves hitman Benik Afobe sat down for an exclusive interview with the Express & Star, and shared the message that Nuno Espirito Santo has given the players regarding recent snipes aimed at the club from other teams’ owners.

The Black Country outfit currently sit comfortably at the top of the Championship table, six points clear of second placed Cardiff City, and a further four ahead of third placed Aston Villa.

The club’s relationship with Jorge Mendes has come under scrutiny this week with other Championship clubs reportedly contacting the EFL to raise their concerns.

Senior figures from Leeds and Aston Villa have taken to social media to highlight the issue, with suggestions being made that the Mendes link is ‘not legal’.

Any kind of controversy is the last thing that Wolves need right now, and the players must find a way of completely blocking out external issues, if they are to go on and win the title.

Afobe told the Express & Star how Nuno has made a point of telling his players to ignore what has been said about the Mendes link:

“The manager’s been talking to us saying don’t listen to what people are saying. We’re seen some stories about the agency and stuff but none of us believe in that. We’re a strong unit. We haven’t been listening to what people are saying. We can’t be doing that bad – we’re six points clear. And Wolves finished 15th last season. It shows how much the club has improved in 12 months.”

Next up for Wolves is a huge away game against Aston Villa tomorrow, and if Nuno’s side leave Villa Park with all three points, they will have one foot firmly inside the promotion door.
