According to Fabrizio Romano in GiveMeSport, Benfica do not want to sell Goncalo Ramos, a player Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal want to sign in the January transfer window.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Benfica want Portugal international striker Ramos as well as Argentina international midfielder Enzo Fernandez in their squad for the second half of the season and do not want to sell him when the transfer window opens in January.

Earlier this month, GiveMeSport reported that Arsenal and Leeds United want to sign Ramos, reportedly has a release clause of €120 million (£106.21 million) in his contract.

ESPN reported this month that Manchester United are planning to make a move for the 21-year-old, who starred for Portugal at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Benfica stance on Arsenal and Manchester United target Goncalo Ramos

Romano said: “Benfica are not open to letting Fernandez go in January – they want something crazy. Also, he has a release clause of €120million.

“They want Enzo Fernandez and Goncalo Ramos to be part of the squad for the second half of the season in the Champions League after winning the group.”

Could a transfer happen in January?

In our view, Arsenal or Manchester United would be able to sign Goncalo Ramos from Benfica in the January transfer window, but only if they pay his release clause.

After all, Benfica do not want to sell any of their best players or would want to in the middle of the season.

Benfica are one of the biggest clubs in Portugal, and while they do sell their best players, they do so for big transfer fees.
