Rangers played a bounce game against Liverpool on Monday.

Rangers vies with Oliver manager Steven Gerrard is seen during the Ladbrokes Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on March 31, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers beat Hearts 3-1 on Saturday afternoon, but there was no let up as a host of fringe players featured in a bounce game on Monday.

Steven Gerrard allowed a number of players to feature against Liverpool’s Under-23’s on Monday in a behind-closed-doors game, giving them a chance to shine.

The team was full of notable names. Wes Foderingham started in goal, with Matt Polster, Joe Worrall, Gareth McAuley and Borna Barisic featuring ahead of him.

Andy Halliday, Graham Dorrans and Lassana Coulibaly formed a three-man midfield, with Eros Grezda and Kyle Lafferty supporting Alfredo Morelos in attack.

Remarkably though, Rangers were 4-0 down at half time, and only made a stunning comeback to earn a 4-4 draw once youngsters Dapo Mebude, Glenn Middleton, Kai Kennedy and Josh McPake were introduced.

Gerrard slated the performance on Rangers TV, calling the first half showing ’embarrassing’ before a superb second half display, and those in the first half team will be fearful now.

Ben Woodburn of Wales during the UEFA Nations League B group four match between Wales and Denmark at Cardiff City Stadium on November 16, 2018 in Cardiff, United Kingdom.

Gerrard signed seven of the players who started, and the likes of Grezda and Lafferty should be concerned having failed to impress, whilst Worrall, McAuley and Coulibaly surely won’t be back next season.

One intriguing note is that Ben Woodburn scored two of Liverpool’s four goals, and Gerrard wanted him at Ibrox last summer and in January according to The Scottish Sun, seeking a loan favour from his former club.

With Ryan Kent’s future up in the air, Gerrard may well have been impressed with Welshman Woodburn’s display on Monday, and a new summer move wouldn’t be a shock after his flop loan move to Sheffield United last summer.
