Liverpool loanee Ben Woodburn is desperate to make an impact back at Anfield in the future.
Ben Woodburn has told the Daily Mail that he is desperate to play for Liverpool again.
Woodburn has been loaned out by Liverpool to Oxford United this season, with the youngster failing to really kick on after showing great early promise as a teenager.
Woodburn burst on to the scene when he became Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer at the age of 17, but he has slipped down the pecking order since.
Woodburn is currently out on loan in League One, and he has only had a limited impact at Oxford due to injury.
But Woodburn insists that he has still not given up hope on forcing his way back into Jurgen Klopp’s plans at Anfield.
“I think my eyes are always going to be set on playing at Liverpool,” he said.
“That is my main goal, that is who I grew up supporting and have been for years.
“Harry Wilson did well at Derby last season and is on loan at Bournemouth now, he’s a couple of years older than me.
“A lot of managers look at who is trustworthy, who has games under their belt and that’s what I am aiming for with Oxford this season. If I am back in the Liverpool squad, I have to show everyone I am ready.”
Whether Woodburn will be able to achieve his aim at Liverpool is very much up for debate.
His task of breaking back into Klopp’s side looks extremely difficult, as Liverpool have such a wealth of attacking options.
Not only do the Reds have Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Divock Origi to call on in the first-team, but youngsters Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster may also be ahead of Woodburn in the selection order as things stand.
If Woodburn is to break back into Liverpool’s side it seems likely that he is going to have to be brilliant for Oxford when he returns from injury next month.
