Gabriel Agbonlahor has told talkSPORT that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal paid more than they should have to sign Ben White from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Arsenal signed White from Premier League rivals Brighton in the summer transfer window.
Sky Sports have reported that the Gunners have paid the Seagulls £50 million in transfer fee to sign the 23-year-old central defender.
Former Villa striker Agbonlahor believes that Arsenal over-paid for the former Leeds United loanee, who can also operate as a right-back or in midfield.
Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “They’ve spent £50m on a centre-half in Ben White who’s good, but £25m too much.
“Brighton are probably thinking happy days! Adam Webster and Lewis Dunk are arguably better natural defenders.”

Did Arsenal overpay for Ben White?
White played in the Premier League for the first time only last season.
Now, the defender did help Leeds win promotion from the Championship the season before.
So, you could say that White had two very good seasons.

Does that merit a transfer fee of £50 million?
Probably not, but Arsenal thought that White is worth £50 million, so they paid it.
You also need to consider that the England international is 23 years of age and was part of the Three Lions’ squad that reached the Euro 2020 final this summer.
Only time will tell if Arsenal overpaid for White or if the defender is a bargain signing for the Gunners.
