Duncan Castles has claimed on The Transfer Window podcast that Arsenal are offering Ben White £120,000 per week as salary.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has added that it is Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta who is keen on signing the Brighton and Hove Albion defender in the summer transfer window.

Castles has also said that the Gunners have had a bid for the former Leeds United loanee turned down.

We covered it here on HITC Sport yesterday.

The Guardian reported this week that Arsenal are confident of signing White for £45 million plus £5 million in add-ons.

Castles said on The Transfer Window podcast: “The other thing I am hearing is that this is being driven very much by Mikel Arteta. He wants White in.

“He is impressed not just by the player’s technical quality, his ability on the ball, his speed, he likes his character, he likes his intelligence, and I am told he even sees him as a potential future captain.”

The journalist added: “The understanding on the offer to Ben White is £120,000 per week, which is a huge increase on what he is on at Brighton.”

Expensive transfer for Arsenal

White is a very talented and promising young defender who is part of the England squad at the ongoing Euro 2020 finals.

Ian Wright, Liam Cooper and Marcelo Bielsa are among those who have praised the 23-year-old in the past.

White can also play as a right-back and in midfield, and given that he is only 23, it is safe to say that he will improve and develop in the coming years.

However, it does seem that a deal for White will be expensive when you take into account the transfer fee and the salary.

Could it backfire for Arsenal? Only time will tell.
