Leeds United beat West Bromwich Albion 5-0 on Tuesday evening, turning in a devastating attacking display against the Baggies.

Romaine Sawyers scoring a 20-yard own goal set the tone for the game, with Ezgjan Alioski, Jack Harrison and Rodrigo also on the scoresheet before half time.

Raphinha added a superb fifth with a curling left-footed strike, handing Leeds all three points in a quite dazzling display – and another clean sheet.

However, there has been focus placed on comments made on Amazon Prime Video before the game, with Karen Carney coming under fire.

Pundit Carney suggested that Leeds were promoted because of the global pandemic, feeling that high-intensity style of Marcelo Bielsa’s play benefited greatly from a break in the season.

Carney’s claims were actually backed up by Leeds falling away in the previous season, and even though Leeds were in fine form when the season was called to a halt, the same could be said of Leeds’ 2018-19 season.

Still, some took offence to Carney’s comments, feeling that she was wrong and Leeds would have gone up with or without the pandemic – but the situation seemed to escalate on Twitter.

Leeds’ official account – somewhat harshly – publicly mocked Carney by reposting the clip and highlighting that Leeds ended up winning the Championship by 10 points rather than being fortunate.

Brighton defender Ben White – who spent last season on loan at Leeds and played a huge role in the promotion – took to Twitter to react to the comments, sending just three laughing emojis as he poked fun at Carney.
