Tottenham Hotspur loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers was outperformed by Ben White as Leeds beat Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

When the summer transfer window was open, Leeds United were on the lookout for a central defender who could come in and add quality to their backline.
His potential arrival became even more important when Pontus Jansson made the surprise switch to Championship rivals Brentford in July, which left a gaping hole in Leeds’ backline.
The Whites opted to secure the signature of Brighton loanee Ben White, whilst they were also rumoured to be keen on Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, as reported by TeamTalk.
In the end, Carter-Vickers ended up at Stoke and on Saturday he came up against White, who well and truly outperformed him as Marcelo Bielsa’s side recorded a comfortable 3-0 win against Nathan Jones’ side.
It was Carter-Vickers’ first game for Stoke, and it is fair to say that it was a poor display from the Spurs ace, who only made 18 passes from the back [WhoScored] to White’s 69 [WhoScored].
Ever since White walked through the doors of the Yorkshire club, he has impressed one and all with his defensive abilities and the quality he possesses when bringing the ball out from the back.

Nonetheless, from a defensive standpoint, White made an impressive five tackles, five clearances and intercepted the ball on three occasions against Stoke [WhoScored].
Meanwhile, Carter-Vickers, summed up Stoke’s woeful performance by making only four clearances and not being able to intercept, block or tackle during any moment of the match [WhoScored].
On paper, Carter-Vickers is perhaps the more fancy type of signing because of the parent club he plays for, but White has proved that it’s all about what you do on the field of play, not what you have or where you come from on paper.
