Ben White, Ian Poveda and Lewis Cook were just a number of players who reacted on their Instagram stories to Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips earning his maiden England call-up.

Some of those players helped Leeds earn promotion to the Premier League last season and it seems as though Phillips’ performances as a number six haven’t gone unnoticed by Gareth Southgate.

And along with promotion to the Premier League, these are now exciting times for those in Yorkshire because things are looking on the up.

White simply wrote ‘yeah yeah’ to Phillips on his Instagram story, whilst Poveda also commented by saying, ‘so proud of you bro’.

Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook, who came through the Elland Road academy with Phillips, wrote on his Instagram story: ‘Love it’.

Pascal Struijk was another player to offer his ‘congrats’ to the Leeds man on his Instagram story, who will now be hoping to cement his place in the England squad.

England’s weakness is their defence, at centre-back and in the holding role, as Phillips will now battle with Declan Rice and Harry Winks for that spot.

Both the West Ham and Tottenham duo have played that role for the Three Lions before, so they already have a head start on the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’.

With Euro 2020 being postponed until next summer, it has helped someone like Phillips who can now try to book his name for that plane ticket in 2021.

Many will be tipping Leeds to produce the goods on their return to the Premier League, and if they do meet expectations then expect Phillips to be at the heart of it all.
