Ben White comments on his move to Leeds United

Leeds United have completed the signing of Ben White from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ben White has told Brighton’s official website that he has known of Leeds United’s interest for 18 months.

Leeds completed the signing of White on a season-long loan today, with the centre-back becoming Marcelo Bielsa’s first defensive signing of the summer.

And White admits that his move to Leeds has been a long time coming.

“I knew Leeds were interested about 18 months ago, when I was at Newport, and they’ve obviously been keeping track of me,” the centre-back said.

“It’s a massive football club, but I haven’t really thought too much about it yet — I’m not the sort of person to get too ahead of myself.”

If Leeds have been watching White for 18 months then their interest started when Thomas Christiansen was in charge.

White has been on loan at Newport County, where he first caught Leeds’ eye, and Peterborough United.

The youngster has impressed on both loan spells he has been sent on so far, but will be making a big step up by joining Leeds.

White will be in competition with Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper for a place in Bielsa’s starting line-up next season.
