Adam Webster has raved about Ben White on talkSPORT (6:09pm, July 25, 2021) amid speculation that he is about to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Arsenal interest

Sky Sports have reported that White will undergo a medical at Arsenal on Wednesday.

Arsenal will pay Brighton and Hove Albion £50 million in transfer fee for the former Leeds United loanee.

The Seagulls have also inserted a sell-on clause for the 23-year-old defender.

Brighton centre-back Webster, 26, has spoken highly of White, and believes that he can get even better.

Teammate’s verdict

Webster said about White on talkSPORT (6:09pm, July 25, 2021): “I think he has got so much ability, he has got so much potential. He is still only 23, 24, He has still got a lot of years ahead of him.

“To do what he has done, obviously, every year he has kicked on and progressed, from League Two to League One to the Championship and then last year in the Premier League and then playing for England. He takes all in his stride and nothing fazes him whatsoever.”

Encouraging for Arsenal fans

White has had just one season in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old, who can also operate as a right-back or in midfield, was playing for Newport County not so long ago.

Some Arsenal fans might be sceptical about paying £50 million for a centre-back who has had only one season in the top flight.

Webster’s aforementioned comments should allay their worries.

After all, the 26-year-old knows White well, having played and trained with him.

Moreover, White was part of the England squad that reached the Euro 2020 final this summer.

White is very comfortable on the ball and can play out from the back.

The youngster is suited to the way Arsenal manager Arteta wants his team to play.
