Nottingham Forest have taken Jack Colback on loan from Newcastle United until the end of the season.

Ben Watson has told the Northern Echo that he wants to see Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback at Nottingham Forest with him next season.

Colback has moved on loan to Forest until the end of the season, after failing to feature for the Magpies over the entirety of the first half of the campaign.

The flame-haired midfielder has put in some impressive performances at the City Ground already.

And Watson now wants Colback to join him permanent at Forest next season.

“Jack has been brilliant,” Watson said. “Since I have got into the team, it has been me and him in the middle and he is a quality player who has played at the highest level. The more we can get Jack on the pitch and the more games we play together, it can only benefit the club.

“I think everyone would like to see him extend his stay beyond the end of the season. But if he keeps performing the way he is, I don’t think he will be short of offers in the summer. It will be Jack’s decision come the end of the season. But myself and everyone else would love to see him at the club for longer.”

Newcastle are unlikely to stand in Colback’s way, if Forest do try to buy him at the end of the campaign.

Colback appears to have no future at St. James’ Park, after falling completely out of favour.

Colback was not even named in Newcastle’s Premier League squad, with Rafael Benitez seemingly having reservations over using him.

The 28-year-old’s next taste of action is likely to come on Saturday, when Forest take on Sheffield United.
