Ben Parker has told the LS11 podcast that the mood at Leeds’ training ground in the days following the defeat to Sheffield United at the weekend was actually positive, with the squad realising how well they played at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side went into the international break third in the Championship after an agonising 1-0 loss against the Blades on Saturday. Despite threatening to ask a lot of questions of Chris Wilder’s side, the Whites just could not put the ball into the back of the net and were punished during the second-half.

The reaction on social media after the game was understandably mixed, with some feeling pessimistic about Leeds’ promotion hopes and others aiming to point out how much time there is still is before anything is decided this season.

And it appears that the Leeds squad still has plenty of belief as former Whites defender and LUTV pundit Parker was asked what the mood at Thorp Arch was like once the players returned to the training ground after the defeat.

“Positive. Just because they looked at the performance as a whole and realised they played well,” he told LS11.

“Compare it to the QPR game where we had a lot of the ball, a lot of territory, but we didn’t move the ball quick enough, we didn’t create as clear cut chances as we’re used to doing so they were more disappointed from that aspect compared to the Sheffield United performance. The good thing about the squad is they know how to bounce back. They’ve got that confidence of bouncing back.”

Leeds responded superbly after losing away at QPR last month. They won their next three games, with that winning run kicking off with the stunning 4-0 victory at home to West Brom.

And it was after losing to the Baggies in November that Bielsa’s men put together a run of seven wins in a row. Replicating that run – which is clearly easier said than done – after the international break would leave the Whites on 94 points heading into the final game and would surely be enough to secure a spot in the top two.
