Former Leeds United defender Ben Parker has admitted to LS11’s YouTube channel that he is getting worried about Patrick Bamford.
The injured Leeds marksman missed last night’s visit of Derby County and it remains to be seen when the £7 million summer signing will be back.
The former Middlesbrough hitman has only managed 29 minutes of Championship football since August due to a knee injury, but he scored the winner in the 1-0 victory at Bolton Wanderers last month to remind fans of the West Yorkshire club what they’d been missing.
Bamford hasn’t been named in one of Marcelo Bielsa’s matchday squads since that goal, and Parker, who works for Leeds’ online channel LUTV, admits that he’s getting a bit concerned over the lack of news available on the 25-year-old’s condition.
Asked on LS11’s YouTube channel whether he’s heard anything, Parker said: “I haven’t heard a thing. I’ve been trying to find out what the extent is, but it’s been a bit hush-hush.
“On certain occasions we speak to Rob Price, the head of medical department at Thorp Arch, and he’s really open, but with Bamford there isn’t much coming out and it’s starting to worry me a little now.”
Leeds, who sit top of the Championship, really need to hedge their bets by signing another striker.
Kemar Roofe, United’s top goalscorer, is bound to suffer through a poor spell at one stage and if Bamford is still injured when that comes, it puts a lot of pressure on Tyler Roberts.
The Welshman has plenty of potential, but he just isn’t a proven striker at Championship level and what a shame it would be if that leads to United’s downfall this season.
