The Burnley centre-back has been linked with a move to West Brom.
Speculation surrounding Jonny Evans’ possible departure from West Bromwich Albion is persisting and Alan Pardew’s side are seemingly assessing their possible options in case the centre-back does leave in January.
As reported by The Telegraph, West Brom will consider making an offer for Burnley defender Ben Mee should they lose Evans.
The report indicates that Evans, who has been linked with Manchester City, Arsenal and Everton, could leave West Brom for around £30 million.
West Brom are concerned about the prospect of Evans leaving in January, as reported by The Mirror.
Losing Evans would be a significant blow for West Brom and would certainly increase fears regarding whether the club can stay in the Premier League given that they are currently languishing just above the relegation zone.
However, bringing in Mee would represent excellent business for West Brom, with the 28-year-old having produced some excellent performances for Burnley in the top flight since their promotion in 2016.
Burnley would be hugely reluctant to lose Mee given the consistency of the performances that he has produced and would likely demand a high price to sell him. The Clarets received a fee that could rise to £30 million from Everton for Michael Keane last summer, as reported by Sky Sports.
Mee is experienced and a dependable performer and would certainly be one of the best options for West Brom to consider if Evans does indeed depart.
West Brom manager Alan Pardew will also be looking to strengthen his squad in other areas, including up front, as his side aim to preserve their Premier League status.
