On his official YouTube channel, Ben Foster has made a case for James Maddison to start for England at the upcoming World Cup.

Maddison: The people’s choice as the Three Lions’ No.10

In the build-up to the Three Lions’ confirmation of their 26-man squad headed to the showpiece event, several fans and pundits alike pleaded Gareth Southgate to select James Maddison in his roster.

To the extent that the cries for the 25-year old’s inclusion became a national campaign in some senses.

And as the Leicester talisman has jetted off to Qatar for the major tournament, many are campaigning for him to start as the side’s chief creator.

Since last season, Maddison has an impressive 19 goals and 12 assists to his name in the Premier League.

Perhaps more impressively this term, the Foxes midfielder has managed to register 7 goals and 4 assists in a side that has flirted with relegation for a chunk of the campaign.

With the Englishman being one of the few natural No.10’s in the side, there have been countless pleas to Gareth Southgate to let the creative midfielder pull strings in behind Harry Kane at the competition.

Foster’s argument for why Maddison should start at the World Cup

Ben Foster gave his take on why James Maddison is a no-brainer in England’s starting XI at the World Cup in his latest YouTube video.

“The only worry I have is he [Maddison] got a little injury for Leicester at the weekend and there’s a little bit of a doubt whether he’s going to be fit or not.”

Foster continued, “However, I have to say, if he’s fit and he’s good to go, you have to start him! We [England] have to start him in that central midfield role. The centre of the 3 players. He is firing at the minute. His confidence is sky-high.”

“He’s getting forward, he’s scoring goals, getting assists. Playmaker, that’s exactly what James Maddison is. He’ll go through the middle, he is that guy for you. “

Many would concur with Ben Foster’s view, after seeing James Maddison run the show for Leicester, especially this season.
