Ben Foster is reportedly set to come out of retirement to sign for National League side Wrexham, with the news coming after Newcastle United were rejected by the goalkeeper last year.
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the former England international will sign for the Welsh side ahead of the Nationa League run-in, with Wrexham currently top of the division by three points and with a game in hand over second-place Notts County.
Owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham have enjoyed a meteoric rise over the last two years, with the Red Dragons set for return to the EFL having been transformed by their A-list celebrity owners, and Foster could now be signing for the club.
The 39-year-old keeper, who rejected a move to Newcastle earlier in the season, has established himself as one of the most followed footballing figures in England based on his widely successful YouTube channel and podcast, and it makes sense why Foster could now be signing for Wrexham.
Indeed, Welcome to Wrexham, the TV show that followed the club following Reynolds and McElhenney’s purchase of the team, was a smash hit in both the UK and USA, and adding a personality like Foster could be a great move both on and off the pitch for the fifth-tier side.
Foster signing for Wrexham could be a masterstroke

Foster has gone all-in on becoming an online creator since retiring from football, yet if there was any club who would be open to the veteran keeper integrating his new work with the beautiful game, it will be Wrexham, who could be about to secure a bargain.
As well as a fantastic quality to have in the National League, Foster signing for Wrexham could help the club grow their profile even more, a goal that the Reynolds and McElhenney have made very apparent since taking over the historic Welsh side in 2020.
