Ben Foster backs Newcastle United to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season, and predicts how he expects them to spend in the summer if they get into the top four.
Newcastle belong among the best of the best in the country
Sitting as high as 3rd place currently, the Magpies would be expected to eventually slide down the Premier League table this season.
However, one must emphasize that Eddie Howe’s side deserved to be a mere two points behind Manchester City, considering the brand of football they have played this season.
Instead of merely soaking up pressure and hitting the top sides on the break, this fearless Newcastle side always the game to the opposition, which makes their style of play sustainable in the long-term.
As exemplified by their 3-3 draw against City earlier this campaign, the hosts’ tireless pressing and breathless transitions from back to front made life hell for the visitors’ defence at St. James’ Park in the first-half especially.
The same can be said for their recent 1-0 win against Chelsea, as Newcastle simply dominated proceedings against Graham Potter’s side.
Foster predicts Newcastle to get top four and spend big
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Ben Foster initially backed Newcastle United to get Champions League football, saying, “But Newcastle, genuinely, I think they’re going to get top 4 this season.”
The retired goalkeeper continued, “This [getting top four] will accelerate their spending. This will genuinely accelerate their spending.”

“All these boys that have come in and done very well… Bye-bye Dan Burn, bye-bye Matty Longstaff, bye-bye everybody else, they’ll be getting the big boys in.”
If Eddie Howe’s side manage to secure their place in the top four by the end of the season, it is natural that the calibre of players they will move towards eyeing will belong right amongst the upper echelon.
