Ben Davies has told Tottenham’s website that Ryan Sessegnon is “thriving” and the Spurs squad are delighted for him – after a “tough” spell with injury. Sessegnon impressed during Saturday evening’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
Sessegnon, 21, clocked up only his 30th appearance for Tottenham since joining the club in 2019 from Fulham. He was tasked with helping Ben Davies keep both Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold quite at Anfield.
It comes after numerous injuries and a season-long loan at Hoffenheim. Jose Mourinho did not seem to fancy Sessegnon, but Conte’s 3-4-3 system is seemingly perfect for an attacking wing-back like Sessegnon.
Speaking about Sessegnon after his performance against Liverpool, man-of-the-match Davies was full of praise for the left-footer. He said that the Spurs squad are delighted for Sessegnon, branding the player as “excellent.”
“In his two games v Liverpool, he has been excellent. Can’t underestimate the quality that he is up against. I’m delighted for him. He’s had it tough with injury. The boys are really happy for him, thriving at the moment.”
Davies on Sessegnon: Tottenham star could save Spurs a lot of cash
It is a widely-reported belief that Spurs will look to improve their options at wing-back. On the right, Matt Doherty was only just beginning to come good before injury. Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon are yet to hold down a place.
Spurs are also expected to sign a left-sided centre-back, a back-up goalkeeper, a midfielder and a striker. But Sessegnon is beginning to show what he is capable of, and it might just convince Conte to avoid spending.
