Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has told the London Evening Standard that the atmosphere at Spurs’ Enfield training ground after the 4-1 loss to Manchester City was “not a nice place”.

The 24-year-old left-back was a late substitute during the heavy loss in which goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and a brace from Raheem Sterling proved too much for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Christian Eriksen mustered a consolation late on but the loss now sees Spurs sit a huge 21 points behind Pep Guardiola’s league leaders, as the north Londoners travel to Lancashire to face Burnley on Saturday evening.

Wales international Davies stated the training ground was “not ideal” following the loss, as Spurs prepare to face Sean Dyche’s high-flying Clarets at Turf Moor.

“It is obviously not an ideal place to be after losing a game like that,” Davies said. “We know how painful it is. It is a quiet place, it is not a nice place to be after a game like that.

“But you have to deal with these things. It is about trying to crack on with the next one. It is difficult to put a finger on what exactly is not going right in certain games. It is not through lack of effort.

“I would be surprised if there are many teams in the league who train and work harder than us.”

Burnley Manager Sean Dyche looks on prior to the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Burnley at Amex Stadium on December 16, 2017 in Brighton, England.

Davies could be given a chance to start from the off against Burnley with Pochettino constantly rotating his full-backs, with former Swansea left-back Davies vying for a place in the side over Danny Rose.

Tottenham’s number 33 has been in good form this season, scoring two goals and adding three more in assists during his 18 league and cup appearances as well as helping Spurs keep six clean sheets.

Spurs sit way down in seventh but a win against Burnley could see them climb back into the reckoning, with the Clarets in sixth and fourth playing against fifth on Friday night, as Liverpool travel to north London to face Arsenal.
