Ben Davies has told Tottenham Hotspur’s website that the Spurs squad has “been on” Oliver Skipp when it comes to shooting in training – after the midfielder scored a blockbuster of a strike from the edge of the area against Chelsea.
Skipp, 22, won the ball back after a poor Chelsea clearance and with the ball bouncing on the edge of the area, he let fly. A gorgeous strike that flew towards the back of the net. Kepa Arrizabalaga, back-tracking, could not keep it out.
His first-ever goal for Spurs and only the second professional goal of his career – in what was his 67th senior Spurs outing. A wonderful goal that pushed Spurs to a superb win over a struggling Chelsea, solidifying their top-four spot.
Speaking about Skipp’s goal, Davies says that the Spurs players have been pushing Skipp in training to improve his shooting from long range. He also praised Skipp for his overall display during Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Chelsea.
“Couldn’t have been happier. So well deserved. Amazing strike. We’ve been on him in training when he’s had a few, but all the practice he’s had has finally come right. He played brilliantly, broke up everything. It was thoroughly deserved.”

Davies: Tottenham squad have been on Skipp when shooting in training
Skipp is going to be crucial for the next few weeks. The midfielder has been superb in the games he has started of late, against Milan, West Ham and then Chelsea. He is more than likely to continue in his role against Sheffield United.
The next three fixtures could make or break Tottenham’s season. The FA Cup is their most-realistic chance of achieving silverware and they have got to avoid the banana skin that is Sheffield United. Then, a trip to play against Wolves.
Another important League games, followed by the second leg in the Champions League against Milan. In the League, Spurs have got a good run of games. Wolves, Forest, Southampton and Everton – and Skipp will be pivotal.
