Ben Davies has shed some light on his Tottenham teammates recently, and he revealed that he hates facing one man in training at Hotspur Way.

When asked about Steven Bergwijn, Football London quote the 52-cap Wales international as saying: ‘Another one I don’t really like facing in training. I remember on his first day he came in and looked a top player.

‘From the moment he came in he brought real energy and fitted straight into the team. When he scored that goal against City (exhales and shakes his head).’

It’s interesting to hear Davies say that Bergwijn hit the ground running on his first day at Hotspur Way, in what is very encouraging news.

Despite his early impressions in training, and that fantastic volley on his debut against Manchester City, it still feels like there’s more to come from the Dutchman.

That isn’t a dig at the £26.7 million man by any means.

He has only been at the club for a year now, and has had to settle in amid unprecedented and disruptive times.

Adapting to a new country is probably hard enough without a global pandemic going on!

Bergwijn also isn’t being given starts week in, week out by Jose Mourinho, which must surely disrupt his rhythm.

Nevertheless, his dribbling skills and burst of pace have caught the eye, while at 23, he still has many years to improve even more.

With Heung-min Son playing in his favoured position as well, Bergwijn might feel slightly daunted at times.

Having said this, if he keeps giving Davies nightmares in training, he will surely remain in Mourinho’s good books around Hotspur Way.
