Tottenham Hotspur suffered humiliation on Tuesday night.
Ben Davies has defended his Tottenham Hotspur team-mates following Tuesday’s shock League Cup defeat at Colchester United.
The League Two side dumped Spurs out of the competition on penalties after the game finished 0-0 in regulation.
United didn’t have a shot on target and Tottenham – who finished the game with 75 percent possession – had four, but 19 efforts at goal overall [BBC Sport].
And although Davies argues that it wasn’t a ‘terrible’ performance from the North Londoners, the Wales international has apologised to the club’s fans nonetheless.
He told The Standard: “We weren’t terrible. We just didn’t seem to click, didn’t put anything together. We have to win these games. We have to show we’re a better side than this. It’s a tough feeling right now.
“We just have to apologise to the supporters, too. We let them down. They travel with us everywhere and they’re first-class. We need everyone behind us now to help us push on through this difficult time.”
With Tottenham also 10 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, there are deservedly quesions over manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Their best chance of winning a trophy is now the FA Cup, which doesn’t start until January.
Dele Alli, Lucas Moura, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama were some of the senior players that started the game last night.
