The left-back came so close to glory in both the Premier League and at Euro 2016.

Ben Davies has suggested the disappointment that Tottenham Hotspur and Wales experienced earlier this year should benefit their hopes of future glory, the Daily Mirror reports.

The 23-year-old was a fairly important member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad last season as they put themselves right in the title race and ultimately proved to be the last team standing between Leicester City and the trophy.

And following that outcome, he was also part of the Welsh squad that surprised many by reaching the semi-finals of the European Championships, in the process, becoming the last home nation left standing.

And Davies explained that while coming so close hurt, the teams putting themselves in that position should help them in future.

“I am trying to learn every day from the staff and players at Spurs and also learn off the boys here as well. It’s a good situation to be in. Last year it was so close but yet so far,” he said, as reported by the Mirror.

“All these things might not have too much relevance now but later down the line when we’ve had that experience before then we will not want to go through that again.”

If nerves due to being in those situations played a part in either team’s inability to get across the line, then it seems likely that having that experience under their belts will prevent those nerves reemerging in future.

And it seems likely that both teams will be able to reflect on the mistakes they made when the pressure was on, which should boost their chances of avoiding such problems again.
