Tottenham left back Ben Davies has hailed team-mate DeAndre Yedlin.

Tottenham defender Ben Davies has told Sports Illustrated that he’s been impressed with DeAndre Yedlin’s displays in training sessions.

Yedlin, 22, burst onto the scene at last summer’s World Cup in Brazil, featuring for the United States against Belgium, and his impressive display prompted plenty of interest.

The right back signed Tottenham last summer, but remained with MLS outfit Seattle Sounders until January, when he joined up with the Spurs squad.

So far, the pacey defender has played just one competitive match for Spurs, but is tipped to have a bright future ahead of him – even after Spurs signed another right back this summer in Kieran Trippier from Burnley.

Now, fellow defender Ben Davies has told Sports Illustrated that Yedlin has ‘impressed everybody’, and believes that he will get his chance in the first team despite experienced competition in Trippier and Kyle Walker.

“He’s impressed everybody in training, and everybody can see his qualities. The competition is tough over there,” said Davies. “Kyle Walker is one of the best fullbacks in the league, so it’s obviously going to be tough competing with him. We all know the qualities DeAndre’s got, and I’m sure when he gets that opportunity that he’ll prove everybody right.”

Change of position?

Yedlin has recently played on the right hand side of midfield for the United States national team, prompting questions over whether we could see the same transition at Tottenham.

Walker and Trippier appear to be battling over the first choice right back spot, which would leave Yedlin as third choice – unless he looks to play further forward.

Tottenham need a spark out wide, and Yedlin has the pace and attacking ability to make a difference there, if manager Mauricio Pochettino gives him a chance in the role.
