Giuseppe Bellusci scored a great free kick in a solid all round performance from the Leeds United defender.
Giuseppe Bellusci produced a stunning free kick against Bournemouth last night to cap a decent all round performance in the Leeds United defence.
Leeds went 1-0 down after heavy pressure from Bournemouth in the first half but fought back well with three goals in the second half which propelled them up towards the top half of the Championship table.
Bellusci produced a complete, all round performance, arguably his best sine he’s been at the club.
| Position | Team | Goals | Interception | Duel Won | Aerial Won | Total Pass | Effective Clearance | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Giuseppe Bellusci | DF | Leeds | 1 | 2 | 6 | 4 | 21 | 12 | 1 | 90 |
His stats in terms of the number of duels he won on the ground and in the air suggest he got the measure of Bournemouth’s attack after a difficult start to the match.
It also shows willingness from him to get stuck in and to be the difference in tight situations where a weaker player may have backed down and conceded possession far more easily.
When he wasn’t in situations where he could use his core strength to outmuscle Bournemouth’s key players, he got into space and intercepted the ball frequently.
That shows urgency and a willingness to try and cut out danger before it develops into something more serious.
He’s never going to be the biggest passer in this Leeds United side, which explains why his passing stats were down at only 21 passes attempted but the number of effective clearances he made was impressive.
That shows that he’s making good no nonsense decisions in pressure situations and simply got the ball away from danger in the first half when Bournemouth were trying to increase their lead.
The 25-year-old has been a key feature in the Leeds United defence this season and he’s providing a gritty and aggressive edge which is difficult for other sides to get the better of. Long may it continue.
