Aston Villa could now get their hands on Dani Ceballos for free after Real Madrid struck an agreement to sign Jude Bellingham.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Spanish giants are close to signing the England international from Borussia Dortmund.
Now – in our view at least – we think the deal could benefit Aston Villa.
What’s the story?
It is said that Unai Emery is keen to reunite with Ceballos at Villa Park after working with the Spain international at Arsenal – according to Estadio Deportivo.
So, where does Bellingham come into this?

Well, the 19-year-old’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu would mean Real Madrid have Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Luka Modric, Federico Valverde and Bellingham as their midfield options in addition to Ceballos.
That is quite a bloated midfield department, to say the least.
Crucially, Ceballos becomes a free agent in June when his contract expires, so we believe Real Madrid will make no effort to keep him, and would be happy to let him depart with Bellingham arriving.
Therefore, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Ceballos – who Spanish football expert Terry Gibson called “brilliant” on the El Tel and Jon’s La Liga Weekly podcast – join Emery at Villa Park this summer.
What Aston Villa could expect from Ceballos
If this hypothetical scenario does become reality, Aston Villa fans will want to know what Ceballos can offer their side.
The 26-year-old offers versatility, as he is able to operate in an attacking midfielder role, while also possessing the qualities to play deeper.
Ceballos is a tremendous dribbler who can also pick out progressive passes – in some ways, he is fairly similar to Philippe Coutinho.
The Real Madrid No.19 has previously made 17 appearances under Emery, scoring one goal while also providing two assists, so don’t expect him to be a goal machine if he does end up in the Midlands.
Be sure to keep an eye on Ceballos this summer, as Bellingham’s imminent arrival could see him leave Real Madrid.
