Champion boxer Tony Bellew has singled out praise for Everton trio Wayne Rooney, Jonjoe Kenny and Idrissa Gueye on Twitter as the Toffees earned a point against Liverpool.

Sam Allardyce’s side were dominated in terms of possession and territory throughout the match but could find only one breakthrough during the clash, as Everton snatched a late point from the penalty spot.

Mo Salah gave Liverpool the lead but they missed golden chances, most notably through Sadio Mane, leaving their advantage at just one goal. Dom Calvert-Lewin earned a penalty from a needless challenge by Dejan Lovren, which was dispatched by Rooney inside the last 15 minutes.

Well-known Everton fan Bellew applauded his side’s defensive shape under Allardyce, as well as the performances of the aforementioned trio – summing up the draw by stating it was a “good point”.

The draw sees Everton end Liverpool’s run of three consecutive wins which has seen them score 15 goals against Stoke City, Brighton and Spartak Moscow.

Egypt international Salah’s goal as the first to go against Allardyce’s side since he took over, following a 2-0 win over Huddersfield and a 3-0 victory against Apollon Limassol in the Europa League.

Remaining in tenth place, the Toffees will be desperate to get back to winning ways as they travel to the north east to face one of Allardyce’s former sides in Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
