Paul Merson thinks Kai Havertz will prove his worth under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal despite his struggles at Chelsea last season.
The former Highbury hero acknowledged that the 24-year-old ‘didn’t have his greatest season’ during the 22/23 campaign, but he thinks he will come good for Arsenal.
Whilst some question the call to bring in Kai Havertz, it’s one that Merson likes and he added on Twitter ‘believe me he will make Arsenal better’.
The main argument that has been put forward about the German’s time at Stamford Bridge is the fact that he was played out of position.
Clearly, that number nine role didn’t suit the versatile forward, so will Arteta use him differently and where so?
That number ten role is taken up by captain Martin Odegaard, but the number eight role could be up for grabs, especially with Granit Xhaka heading for the exit door, as Merson shared his thoughts.

“Although he didn’t have his greatest season last year,” said Merson “Believe me Havertz will make Arsenal a better team. #GoodSigning.”
Havertz has a lot to prove
From Chelsea fans to Arsenal supporters and to the neutral. Many have questioned and are still questioning Havertz.
Perhaps that will help Arsenal’s cause because they will have a player that has a big point to prove and fire in his belly once he dons those colours at the Emirates – Luis Garcia certainly thinks it will work and he feels the former Leverkusen star ‘isn’t afraid’, as he told ESPN.
Plus, Arteta needs to be trusted here. For most parts, he has proven that he has a serious eye for talent and bringing in players that suit what he wants.
