Chelsea winger Eden Hazard’s assist helped Belgium pick up all three points in a tough 1-0 win against Russia at the World Cup.
Thibaut Courtois 6 – Wasn’t tested enough for the chances Russia had but made smart saves when required.
Toby Alderweireld 6 – Didn’t have the best of games and was very lucky to have not conceded a penalty.
Daniel Van Buyten 6 – The 36-year-old looked a little slow at times and didn’t add anything special to the game, but he kept a good clean sheet.
Vincent Kompany 7 – Strong as always. Captained the side fantastically and put in some brilliant challenges.
Thomas Vermaelen N/A – Unlucky to get injured and was substituted after 35 minutes.
Marouane Fellaini 6 – Didn’t have quite the same impact on this game as he did on the first. Seemed to peter out in the second half – much like the match.
Axel Witsel 6 – Started brilliantly, but much like Fellaini didn’t add anything to the game as it went on.
Dries Mertens 7 – Was brilliant on the right wing, skipping past defenders but just couldn’t add the finishing touch.
Kevin De Bruyne 6 – Did bring a spark to the midfield but always seemed to try to take on one too many players and lose it.
Eden Hazard 7 – For long periods didn’t get on the ball enough, but showed how brilliant he is when he did. A great assist for Divock Origi’s goal.
Romelu Lukaku 5 – Had a nightmare match again and will be very disheartened with his World Cup campaign so far.
SUBS
Jan Vertonghen 6 – Did a steady job at the back after coming in for Vermaelen.
Divock Origi 7 – Added that extra something upfront and grabbed the all-important goal to give Belgium the three points.
Kevin Mirallas 6 – Played a key role in Belgium’s late fight, was unlucky with a free-kick that hit the post.
