Tottenham defender is on Manchester United’s shortlist.

Jose Mourinho was spotted in Belgium last night it is being speculated that the Manchester United manager is on a scouting mission.

Belgian website Voetball Krant suggest Mourinho was in Brussels to watch Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.

Alderweireld played all 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as Belgium won 2-0. Michy Batshuayi scored both goals in the second half.

United midfielder Marouane Fellaini was not part of the squad as he is nursing an injury.

Alderweireld was reported to be high on United’s transfer wishlist in the summer, the Evening Standard reported.

The club did not meet Tottenham’s asking price and Mourinho’s United did not sign a centre-back.

Their defence has been a problem all season. United have conceded more goals than any team in the top 14 in the league.

Alderweireld’s contract expires in 2020, but there is a clause in his contract next summer which means he can be bought for £25 million. This could prompt Spurs to cash in for a higher fee this January.
