AA Gent boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck has told Belgian newspaper Sportwereld that Matz Sels was deserved to make his big summer move to Newcastle United.
The goalkeeper signed for Newcastle during the transfer window and has a chance to establish himself as the club’s first choice stopper.

While last season Sels was playing Champions League football for Gent, his former boss has no hard feelings about him leaving to play in English football’s second tier.
He said: “As a club we allow players who have made a step forward to move abroad, especially if the club receive an appropriate transfer fee in return.
“Due to the good performance in recent years, Matz made a nice transfer to an ambitious and traditional club in England.”

While he goes on to admit Gent have a hole to fill, he feels assuredly that letting Sels leave was the right decision.
The 24-year-old has been a regular starter for Newcastle United this season, making five appearances, with two clean sheets in his last two appearances.
With Tim Krul out injured, he has a chance to really establish himself in the team, and due to the Dutchman’s high profile, he may not be hanging around.
