Whatever happens for Liverpool this season, there’ll be an element of disappointment during the summer.
That’s because the quadruple-chasing Reds are going to lose a massive figure in assembling this squad – Michael Edwards.
Liverpool are losing their long-serving director of football this summer and although Julian Ward is replacing him, Edwards will absolutely be missed.
But before he does officially leave, you wonder if he and Jurgen Klopp could make inroads toward signing the player who was constantly linked with a move to Anfield.
Time to get Adama Traore?
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona won’t be signing Adama Traore on a permanent basis this summer.
The Spanish outfit won’t be paying the £25 million needed to sign the powerful winger from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Liverpool will certainly be able to afford Traore.
There is no modern speculation about a move to Anfireld, but this is a player who has been repeatedly linked with a transfer to Merseyside down the years and although Klopp has a lot of talented wide players, he will need to replace Takumi Minamino this summer and therefore a winger might be added, despite the existing options.
Last year, 90 Min reported that the Reds were still interested in the player, but nothing materialised.
Remember, this is also a player who Klopp called ‘undefendable‘, highlighting that the German manager is well aware of the threat that Traore brings to opposition defences.
There’s no denying that he could be more consistent with his output, hence why he’s set to return to Molineux rather than stay at Camp Nou.
But there’s also no denying that with the right coaching, the 26-year-old could still be an absolute monster of a footballer and Edwards will know that.
The clock is running out on Edwards’ stint at Liverpool but maybe, just maybe, there’s time for one last piece of transfer business.
