Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan Gareth Bale’s decision to pass to Heung-min Son in the 64th minute against LASK.
The Wales international burst through on goal, where he looked destined to slot the ball past Alexander Schlager for his second strike of the night.
However, Bale attempted to square it for the South Korea international to tap into an empty net.
That would’ve been fine, although the former Southampton man played the ball behind Son, who couldn’t make contact.
It proved to be a costly moment with Spurs leading 2-1, as LASK went on to equalise and eventually nicked a 3-3 draw against Jose Mourinho’s men.
The Bale of old surely would’ve slotted the ball home without thinking, so perhaps we’re seeing the mental effects of his lack of playing time.
With plenty of games under his belt, surely the 30-year-old would’ve finished his chance.
However, he may have been nervous and just wanted to make sure of the goal by passing to Son.
Whatever the reason, it was a truly frustrating way to squander an opportunity.
In some form of consolation, the north Londoners only needed a point to qualify, and they got it.
