Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to share bad news for Rangers fans, who had hoped to see Paris Saint-Germain wonderkid Xavi Simons move to Ibrox.

What’s the story?

Well, it was AS who revealed that Rangers had made a move to sign the 18-year-old, who becomes a free agent in June.

Simons and PSG had been struggling to agree terms over an extension.

Now, however, Romano believe PSG are willing to improve their contract offer to the teenager, with talks progressing.

The Italian journalist added that Simons is now getting closer to signing a long-term deal at the Parc des Princes, with PSG keen for him to stay.

You can see what Romano tweeted in full below.

It was always going to be difficult to lure one of the most precocious wonderkids in Europe to Ibrox, in truth.

Rangers deserve credit for being alert to the situation, and also for at least giving the move a go.

Rangers could still sign Xavi Simons

In the report from AS, it was said that the Dutchman’s agent – Mino Raiola – wants to find him a new club, due to a lack of first-team opportunities.

So far this season, Simons has only made four appearances in Ligue 1.

We all know how difficult Raiola can be – Sir Alex Ferguson even refused to deal with the stubborn 54-year-old during his time at Manchester United.

Therefore, if Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t start Simons more often between now and the end of the season, we feel there’s a slight chance of him leaving the French capital.

Romano seems to believe otherwise, so keep an eye on this saga – with Raiola involved, anything can happen.
