Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has shared what he knows about Spurs and their hunt for a new midfielder.
The north London club have been linked with a few new players in midfield in recent days such as Franck Kessie and Sofyan Amrabat, but according to Gold, these rumours are wide of the mark.
Indeed, Gold says that he’s always been told that Tottenham are looking for a more attacking midfield option who can also double up as a winger or a number ten rather than defensive players such as Kessie and Amrabat.

Spurs want attacking reinforcement
Gold shared what he knows about this situation.
“Personally, this is what I’ve always been told, they have been looking for a more attacking midfielder, someone who can play up front or sit deep if needs be. When I say up front I mean more of a number 10, winger type player. I just find the links to defensive midfielders really odd,” Gold said.
Don’t need defensive midfielders
Gold described the links to these defensive midfielders as really odd, and we’re inclined to agree.
Spurs already have so many midfielders of that ilk. Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Yves Bissouma are all already at the club, so why add to that with more of the same?
Spurs need someone with a bit more of a creative spark in the midfield, and that would also give Conte the option to use his patented 3-4-1-2 formation rather than the 3-4-3 we’ve seen all season long.
We may well see more reports emerging linking Tottenham to this kind of player, but it would be more than surprising if they actually followed through and signed any of these players.
