Jose Enrique has put his Liverpool loyalties to one side and admitted that Virgil van Dijk deserved a red card against Everton on Saturday.
The Reds were held to a 0-0 draw by a stubborn Everton outfit at Goodison Park.
Despite this being a Merseyside derby, the Liverpool and Toffees players weren’t flying into tackles left, right and centre.
However, Amadou Onana did suffer an injury with 15 minutes remaining when the big Dutch powerhouse sunk his studs into the Blues’ midfielder’s shin.
It was undeniably an accident by Van Dijk, but Frank Lampard claimed after the game that the Liverpool defender should have been sent off for the late challenge.
And former Reds left-back Enrique agrees with Lampard. Here’s what he posted on Twitter:

It was a funny sort of weekend on the VAR front.
The decisions that deserved a second look were invariably called incorrectly, and the incidents that warranted a second look did not appear to receive one.
The technology has received a massive backlash over the past 24 hours and, really, rightly so.
The Liverpool defender picked up a booking for the challenge on Onana but, going by Enrique’s photograph, perhaps it was a touch lenient.
