Fabian Schar has told NUFC TV that Dan Burn showed ‘everyone’ what he can offer during his Newcastle United debut following a January transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Eddie Howe raided the Amex Stadium in a £13m last-gasp swoop to improve his Magpies defence with Burn last month. The Seagulls initially rebuffed Newcastle’s advances for the boyhood Toon supporter, with Wigan Athletic owed 20% of the profit from his £4m arrival.
But after United improved their initial £7m bid with deadline day nearing, the south coast side caved in and sold. Boss Graham Potter was reluctant to lose the 6 ft 7 enforcer having fielded the centre-half, who can play left-back, in 13 Premier League fixtures, starting 12.

Howe resisted handing Burn his Newcastle debut during the Magpies’ win over Everton on February 8. But the Toon gaffer felt fit to field the 29-year-old last time out against Aston Villa, as the St James’ Park natives claimed a third-straight win and their third clean sheet.
Newcastle’s upturn in form has lifted the North East outfit out of the relegation zone by four-points to Norwich City. They also hold a game in hand over the 18th-place Canaries.
Schar praises Burn for January transfer’s Newcastle debut
Burn enjoyed a dream Newcastle debut following his January transfer from Brighton as the Magpies beat Aston Villa. The Blyth-born brute put his body on the line to defend Martin Dubravka’s net and won a number of key aerial duels, despite playing with a yellow card.
Howe will hope the one-time Toon academy prospect replicates his display when they visit West Ham United on Saturday. The Magpies lost 4-2 at home to the Hammers earlier this season under Steve Bruce. But the Tyneside outfit have won their last two in east London.

Schar will also be looking to see Burn produce a repeat performance in the Newcastle line-up. The January transfer impressed the Swiss with what he produced against Aston Villa.
“I think he was pretty good,” Schar said. “He’s been excellent, showed a lot of composure and everyone could see what he can do. Played a really good game, as well, I was feeling confident playing alongside him or whoever came in, also having to change the full-back.”
