Paul Merson has been sharing some reflective thoughts with Sky Sports, regarding Tottenham’s 3-1 defeat in the north London derby.

What’s the story?

Well, Merson was speaking a few days after Tottenham’s dismal showing at the Emirates Stadium, and he specifically spoke about Harry Kane.

The Sky Sports pundit feels Tottenham’s No.10 has suffered a dip in form, but only due to his incredibly high standards over the last five years.

Merson said: “People lose form too and it is hard to keep on producing what he has been on a consistent basis, he has been doing this for five years. There is going to be a dip on the way and he has ended up in a dip at the time he least wanted it.”

We can’t argue with these comments.

Yes, Kane is seriously struggling right now, and some may put that down to him being demotivated after he didn’t get his desired move away.

However, the fact he’s been playing nearly week in, week out at an extraordinarily high level for years has to come into the equation.

Additionally, his ankle problems – and Tottenham’s tendency to rush him back – must also be accounted for.

Harry Kane needs help at Tottenham

When Kane or Heung-min Son fail to net, how often do you hear another Tottenham player’s name on the scoresheet?

It rarely happens, and it’s a huge issue.

On days like Sunday, where Kane and Son struggle to get involved, they need someone to help them out and get Tottenham a goal.

Goals must be spread out across the side, or else Nuno Espirito Santo is relying on two players to win him games every week.

That is risky business, especially when one suffers a dip in form like Kane is experiencing now.

Hopefully, the England international can rediscover his golden touch soon.
