Matthew Dennis has seemingly announced his departure from Arsenal with the teenage right-back due to become a free agent on July 1, posting on Instagram via the Daily Cannon.

While Mikel Arteta has shown plenty of faith in homegrown youngsters since taking charge of the Gunners in December, it seems that even his return to the Emirates will not be enough to save Dennis’s Arsenal career.

The 18-year-old is set to see his scholarship terms come to an end this summer. And it looks increasingly likely that he has pulled on that famous red and white shirt for the last time, if his social media output this weekend is anything to go by.

‘It’s been a pleasure, Arsenal’, wrote Dennis, seemingly confirming that he will be on the lookout for a new club after the end of June.

The fresh-faced right-back has been honing his considerable talents at the iconic Hale End academy since he was just six years old.

And, as recently as just last month, fellow Arsenal youngster Nathan Butler-Oyedeji named him as one of the most exciting young talents in north London.

“Matthew Dennis in training, sometimes he is unplayable,” Butler-Oyedeji told the Deluded Gooner.

The apparent decision to let Dennis go might come as something of a surprise, given that the Gunners are not exactly overloaded with right-backs.

Hector Bellerin continues to be struck by injury problems, Ainsley Maitland-Niles has fallen out of favour and Cedric Soares, at the moment anyway, has made no impact since joining on loan from Southampton.
