Speaking on the Why Always Us Podcast, Manchester City journalist Sam Lee has shared what one source has told him about the Cityzens’ move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
It’s no secret that City are keen on bringing Kane to the Etihad this summer, and it sounds as though, slowly but surely, things are moving in that direction.
Indeed, Lee says that one source texted him after the Community Shield final stating that there had been a breakthrough on the Kane front.
What’s been said?
Lee shared what he’d been told about Kane over the weekend.
“I drove back from Wembley on Sunday morning I got back at like 1:00, and I checked my messages and there were six or seven saying ‘Spurs are signing Lautaro Martinez, what does that mean for Kane?’. There was one from somebody else who I’ve been speaking to recently and he was like ‘there’s been a breakthrough on Kane’, and he sent that through before the Lautaro Martinez stuff came through,” Lee said.
“I’m sharing that information because it’s so bland compared to the Grealish stuff, I don’t think people will go overboard with it, but I don’t want people to start thinking it’s going to happen. That was something that’s not been checked out, we’re trying to find out what’s going on with it, but the latest I heard was that there’s been a bit of a breakthrough.”
Don’t go overboard
This is an exciting update if you’re a City fan, but as Lee says, you shouldn’t go overboard after hearing this.
A breakthrough could mean absolutely anything. It’s a very vague term, but it does indicate that things are going in the right direction for City.
It certainly seems as though we could see Kane in a sky blue shirt before the end of the transfer window, let’s just see whether or not the reigning Premier League champions are willing to cough up another nine-figure transfer fee.
