Romeo Beckham has made his first start for the Brentford youth outfit since joining the club on a permanent basis.

Romeo Beckham was named in the starting XI for the Brentford youth side that was held to a 1-1 draw by Slough Town on Friday evening.

The Brentford team were managed by Neil MacFarlane, and was made up of players from the Brentford B squad, as well as under-18 youth team members. Many of the club’s young stars have already impressed Thomas Frank.

Beckham lined up in an attacking role, as he racked up his first minutes for the Bees since securing a permanent move to the club from Inter Miami, where his father, David Beckham, is a co-owner and president.

Romeo Beckham’s story so far

At 20-year-old, this outing marks an important first step in Beckham’s Brentford career. He will have ambitions of making the grade at first team level, but will have plenty to prove before he gets to that point. The forward signed a one-year deal at the Gtech Community Stadium earlier this summer, and will be keen to make strong progress quickly in order to encourage Brentford to take up the one-year extension option they hold.

Of course, Beckham is no stranger to attention. His progress at academy level will be monitored with far greater intrigue than is usual. This has been the case since he first entered youth football in 2014. That additional pressure is something he will have to cope with as he seeks to make up for lost time, having gone on a five-year hiatus from football after being released by the Gunners. Beckham made his return to football with Inter Miami II in 2021, prior to earning his permanent move to Brentford following a short-term loan at the club last season.
