Jermaine Beckford has shared on Doing A Leeds podcast what Trevor Sinclair told him about Leeds United youngster Ian Carlo Poveda after the match against Manchester City last weekend.

The former Leeds striker was impressed with the performance of Poveda against City in the Premier League last weekend, and so was ex-Citizens winger Sinclair.

Beckford said about Poveda on Doing A Leeds podcast: “He came on at half-time and changed the game [against Man City]. He was a very, very exciting player.

“I was talking to Trevor Sinclair as well about it, and he said, ‘Tell you what, the game changed when he came on, didn’t it?’ How exciting is he! He is so exciting.”

Encouraging performance against Manchester City

Poveda – who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder – did not start the match for Leeds against City at Elland Road, but the youngster came on as a substitute at the start of the second half.

The 20-year-old – who joined the Whites from City in January 2020 – played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 72.7%, took 23 touches, attempted two dribbles, and made two tackles, according to WhoScored.

One for the future

Poveda is only 20 years of age and is still developing as a footballer, and one suspects that he will not become a regular in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting lineup just yet.

However, getting playing time at regular intervals and make an impact off the substitutes’ bench will only make the youngster a better and more mature player as the season progresses.
