Jermaine Beckford has paid tribute to Leeds United for their ‘phenomenal’ fitness levels.

The Whites sit top of the Championship and look like very good candidates to seal a first Premier League return in 16 years.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have a six-point cushion in the top two with only five games left.

So much of Leeds’ success under the Argentine is their pressing, which reflects the rigourous conditioning that Bielsa subjects them to in training.

For one day a week at Thorp Arch, Bielsa oversees a session that the Leeds lads have coined as ‘murderball’ which epitomises the demands from their esteemed coach.

United won 3-1 at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday and former striker Beckford was stunned by their energy – and says that Ezgjan Alioski trying to nutmeg the opponent on 89 minutes is a perfect example of their superior fitness.

The club’s legendary former marksman told LUTV on Saturday: “Even at this late stage of the game, 44 minutes into the second half, he’s still trying nutmegs, trying to get in past the Blackburn defenders.

“That just goes to show the level of fitness these Leeds United players have got – phenomenal.”
