Jermaine Beckford has told The Weekend Wrap that those behind the scenes at Leeds have told him what Brenden Aaronson is like in training – hearing he is like a “pest”, largely thanks to his incredible work rate and energy.
Aaronson, 21, opened his Premier League account on Sunday as Leeds swept Chelsea aside to win 3-0. An incredible result, that shocked many. The USA international was superb, tackling goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to score.
One of the club’s eight summer signings, Aaronson cost Leeds £25million from RedBull Salzburg. He has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, still claiming that it was his touch that saw Leeds score the winner against Wolves.
Officially, his first goal came on Sunday, and he is earning huge praise. He also earned praise from Alan Shearer for Sunday’s outing. Beckford has shared what some have said about Aaronson behind the scenes, in Leeds training.

“I’ve been speaking to a few of the guys behind the scenes at Leeds, and they say he is such a pest in training. They try to change direction in training, he’s there. They turn. He’s there,” Beckford said, on The Review Show.
Beckford: Aaronson a ‘pest’ in Leeds training
If he is anything like the intensity he is showing in a Leeds shirt during matchday, Aaronson looks like a real pest. A player with stat-topping energy. Leeds ran an extra 11 kilometres, averaging 14 kilometres per player against Chelsea.
Aaronson would have been right at the top of those stats. Playing as a no.10, he chased and hassled the entire afternoon. He lasted 83 minutes before being replace by Jesse Marsch and he certainly deserved a rest after his outing.
If Leeds are to do something special this season – which the current table standings suggest – Aaronson will be key. Goals, assists, but also leading from the front in terms of energy and work rate. At 21, he is the definition of wonderkid.
