Sol Campbell labelled Kieran Trippier’s delivery during Newcastle United’s quite remarkable 8-0 win over Sheffield United on Sunday at Bramall Lane as ‘beautiful’.

The England international bagged himself three assists, including two inside 35 minutes, as Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United humiliated the newly-promoted side in an embarrassing fashion.

Fantasy Premier League users would have loved the quite dominant attacking display from Newcastle because there were points galore up for grabs.

It also puts to bed this myth that teams usually suffer with their first game back from a long trip across Europe in midweek because Newcastle, Liverpool, Brighton, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Manchester City, all of whom were in Europe in midweek, won at the weekend.

West Ham United were the other team to compete in Europe also, as they were beaten by Liverpool at Anfield.

All in all, there were many top performances for Newcastle United yesterday, with Kieran Trippier praised by former England defender Sol Campbell, as he told Premier League Productions (24/09/23 at 5:30 pm).

Kieran Trippier three assists for Newcastle

“It’s always nice to get off the mark (re Botman’s goal),” said Campbell. “It was a beautiful delivery from Trippier, he glanced at it and into the bottom corner. Textbook.

“You can’t ask for anymore if you are a defender and you get onto the scoresheet as well.”

Newcastle score eight

Dominant of the highest order. Yes, the spotlight is going to well and truly be on Sheffield United because they were on the end of a beating.

But it also needs to be noted how much this performance and result will aid Newcastle going forward.

Champions League football is kicking in at St James’ Park and the Magpies have many boxes to tick if they are to progress to the knockout stage.
