Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are reportedly keen to sign Kilmarnock’s Liam Smith, as are Premier League champions Manchester City.

This summer looks like a crucial one for Rangers.
Despite making great strides under Steven Gerrard, they are still a long way off challenging Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title despite putting a substantial buffer between themselves and the chasing pack from third down.
So a club who have made a series of ill-fated signings since returning to the top flight three years ago need to ensure they spend well in a window that could make or break their hopes of ending Celtic’s dominance.
And while Liam Smith is hardly the sort of player who would transform The Gers into genuine title challengers, his signing would really lay down a marker and prove that the Glasgow giants still have plenty of pulling power.

According to the Scottish Sun, Manchester City are also interested in the highly-rated Kilmarnock striker and the chance to work under Pep Guardiola at the Premier League champions would obviously appeal to any young player looking to make his way in the game.
But with Jadon Sancho (below), Rabbi Matondo and Brahim Diaz all walking away from City thanks to a lack of first-team opportunities, Smith should know full well that becoming the next Phil Foden is easier said than done.
Could this push him to Rangers instead?
