Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has admirers in La Liga, Ligue 1 and Italy’s Serie A with the 2021 Scottish Premiership champion keen on a move away from Ibrox, according to Tutto Salernitana.

If Mick Beale cannot revive Kamara’s ailing Rangers career, then who can?

Reunited in Glasgow again after 12 months apart, Steven Gerrard’s former assistant coach remains a huge admirer of the one-time Arsenal youngster. Kamara fell out of favour under Giovanni van Bronckhorst but getting him back on side is one the first tasks on Beale’s Ibrox in-tray.

“Glen has got 100 per cent of my trust,” says the former QPR boss, who brings Kamara’s ex-Arsenal coach Neil Banfield with him to Scotland’s second city (Scottish Sun).

“(Kamara) was hugely important in my previous time here. And, while he’s still young, he’s coming into the prime of his career. He will be a big player for Rangers moving forward.

“Neil Banfield had him for a number of years through the Arsenal academy and I worked with Glen for three and a half years. If we can’t help then I’m not sure anyone can, in a Rangers shirt.”

Rangers’ Glen Kamara is a target for clubs in Spain, France and Italy

The first challenge, however, will be to convince Kamara that he’s better off staying put.

According to reports coming out of Italy, the bargain £50,000 signing from Dundee United has asked Rangers to let him go in the New Year; ambitious Serie A outfit Salernitana making the 27-year-old their top midfield target ahead of the January transfer window.

Kamara, the report adds, also has interest from the respective top flights of France and Spain. At least, with his contract running until 2025, Rangers are under no immediate pressure to cash in.

Former Gers striker Kris Boyd, meanwhile, expects Beale to bring in a new centre-forward in the coming transfer window, expressing concerns about Antonio Colak’s suitability under a coach who prefers a high-pressing game (Sun).

Boyd also believes Rangers must bring in a long-awaited successor for Daniel Candeias on the right-hand side, three years after the Portuguese assist-machine bid farewell.

‘Colak could be a victim’

“For me, (Colak) is the best finisher at the club,” says Boyd. “Colak could be a victim of the way Michael Beale’s Rangers will play. It would not surprise me either if he dips into the transfer market in January for a forward. That could see Colak pushed further down the pecking order.

“As the top scorer in Scottish football so far this season that seems harsh. But I have been there before. I actually see similarities between Colak and myself. I took stick for not linking the play enough. And there is no doubt (Kemar) Roofe and (Alfredo) Morelos do that far better than Colak.

“Colak might also find himself on the outside looking in. I’m not convinced he has all the attributes that Beale is looking for. While I’m sure Beale will bring in an additional striker there are other areas he has to strengthen. The right-wing position has been an issue since Daniel Candeias left,” Boyd adds..

“It has been a blind spot for the club. And one that must be urgently sorted out.”
